PNOC-EDC
engages OIDCI in profiling project
The Energy
Development Corporation of the Philippine
National Oil Company (PNOC-EDC) recently
awarded OIDCI its socio-political and
cultural profiling of host communities
project as it seeks to uplift the lives of
communities that are located within its
geothermal sites. This effort is part of
PNOC-EDC’s corporate social responsibility
(CSR) program.
The
PNOC-EDC was established
in 1976 for the exploration and development
of geothermal energy sources in the
Philippines. This profiling activity will
cover five of its geothermal sites, namely,
Mindanao Geothermal Production Field in
North Cotabato, Leyte Geothermal Production
Field, Southern Negros Geothermal Production
Field in Negros Oriental, Bacman Geothermal
Production Field in Sorsogon, and Northern
Negros Geothermal Project in Bago City. The
profiling project kicks off first week of
August.
The profiling activity hopes to improve
community perceptions and relations with
PNOC-EDC. The result of the socio-political
and cultural profiling is also expected to
provide concrete information to be able to
determine possible livelihood projects for
these host communities.
OIDCI has
extensive experience in baseline studies and
profiling activities with different funding
agencies as the World Bank in the ARMM
Social Fund and the Regional Resources
Management Project, USAID in the Natural
Resources Management Project,
UNDP in “Rehabilitating Internally Displaced
Persons (IDPs) and Communities in Southern
Philippines”,
and JBIC in the Forestry Sector Project,
among others. OIDCI
has also undertaken a Comprehensive Basic
Study for ARMM that involved the conduct of
baseline survey for the whole ARMM region as
a basis for development assistance by the
Government of Japan. The company also took
part in the conduct of the Social Assessment
for the ADB-funded Infrastructure for Rural
Productivity Enhancement Sector Project, and
the Scoping and Mapping Studies in support
of the new AusAID Philippine Country Program
– Area Focused Category, among others.
